Heat Pumps
Heat pump water heaters are the far superior option when they work with your home's layout. A certain amount of makeup air is required, which has some work arounds, but isn't best for every situation. When it is a good fit, the benefits are abundant. Average yearly operating cost in heat pump mode is around $150, which no other option comes close to. They will dehumidify most basements during the summer months and you can turn off the 1200 watt dehumidifier. Wifi control can alert you of any leaks. Electric elements can be used if needed. Electric elements along with heat pump can be utilized for high demand situations and provide almost instantaneous hot water production. Add in great state rebates along with tax credits to help bring down the initial cost, and it's a win win proposition. Futures always installs with dielectric unions, an insulated hot water line, and an inverted heat trap on the cold line ensuring ultra efficient performance that is corrosion free for many years. Gas Water Heaters
Gas water heaters are quick to respond and come in many shapes, sizes, and options for various applications. Futures installs and services all types. Tanked options are a good option for homes using a lot of different fixtures. Installed correctly the breakdowns and maintenance are usually minimal aside from flushing sediment as needed and thermal fuse or expansion tank failure. On demand tankless systems are more efficient without have to keep a 50-80 gal tank heated at all times. They can be limiting on the amount of fixtures running simultaneously if the incoming water is really cold, but the supply is endless if you enjoy long showers or tubs. Lifetime maintenance and breakdowns can be higher with more moving parts and the need to descale the heat exchanger. The average life expectancy is slightly better at 15-18 years opposed to 10-12 years for most tanked systems. Whatever your needs are, if gas is your hot water energy source, we can provide any service, information, or guidance required.

Oil Water Heaters
Oil water heaters are a good fit for remote locations. The tanks are usually stainless steel wrapped in fiberglass and last a very long time. Aside from those pros, oil prices can be volatile, they will usually be the highest upfront cost and the costliest to run, maintain, and repair. Burners need regular maintenance, parts replaced, and more service calls, adding to the total lifetime cost of operation. Improper tuning or overfiring can also cause damage to the tank. We provide top notch service on these appliances but rarely recommend installing them if there's any other viable option.

Electric Water Heaters
Electric resistance water heaters are good for low upfront cost and service costs. With the exception of oil, they will be the most expensive monthly energy cost in New England. As with most tanked options the life expectancy is around 10-12 years. Installing a leak stop device along with applying best install practice is always a good idea for tanked water heaters without Wi-Fi leak alerting. Premature failure can happen and cause a lot of property damage in a short amount of time. There are better options available, but in some situations, electric options can be a good fit. Other than flushing sediment as needed and checking elements, aqua stat, and expansion tank (if needed for application) there isn't much to them. We are happy to provide any services needed or provide free quotes.
